The Fox

or feeling the effects of “Coyote Mentoring”: reading this enlightening book at the moment and finding it strangely amusing how this North American totem animal of this teaching method has transformed its communicative power for an european soul! The author of the book explains how he kept having sightings of the Coyote while studying Nature using the mentioned indigenous people´s method. So, as i am reading this book, the Fox, our european counterpart of the “trickster”, the one who walks along the edge of civilization, keeps showing himself to me. We know the secret behind this phenomenon though, don´t we: as soon as our awareness has shifted, new ideas or things make their way into the realm of our mind. Luckily i get to live near Nature and fox-sightings are not so rare as one would think….

  1. I like the idea of finding a local animal. Living here in North America we have coyotes just about everywhere. They’ve adapted very well to human incursions in their environment. The western coyote has actually been moving eastward and into suburban and even urban areas, so in some ways they are behaving a bit like humans! I hear them occasionally but rarely get to see them.

    • its interesting, because this animal keeps popping into my awareness from different communication nodes also: logos that sport the fox, advertising depicting the fox, youtube links from my friends… and so on…he moves across the boundaries, The Fox and The Coyote…

      • I think foxes are also having some pop relevance right now. Students have said recently that “the fox is the new owl.” For awhile owls were very popular icons. I’m not sure what this means, really.

Foxes and coyotes do have some shared characteristics — they’re observers (maybe there is a connection to artists here!), elusive, and smart.

      • “pop relevance” …. let that sink in for a bit… thank you for linking The Fox to us artists! quite flattering!
